We Meant Break Into a New Career, Not our Ads
Vandalism of Outdoor Ad Goes Viral
02 Feb 2022

A placid start to another week for us at Hirect was shattered yesterday as we were alerted to the vandalization of one of our bus shelter ads in the Castro District. While such destruction cannot be condoned, we can only assume the hiring emergency that led to such desperate action was a distraught 49ers fan in search of a quarterback who can actually finish big games (too soon?).

While it’s distressing someone took our slogan a little too on point, and conveniently missed the fine print at the bottom, as the old adage goes, there’s no sense crying over spilled milk — or broken glass in this case.
In the wake of the largest outdoor ad campaign in Bay Area history, it would’ve been naive to think none of our 500-plus transit shelter, billboard, news rack, and bus king/tail placements would be met with such…expressive feedback. But as the nearly 1,000 upvotes and comments on this Reddit chain prove, even a lemon can be lemonade:

But as a local startup with our office less than three miles from this particular spot, it got us thinking: If we can help founders find top talent and job seekers land a new career fast (like a few days fast), surely we can find someone to clean up this mess just as quickly? So, we created a job post on Hirect for a Broken Glass Technician (clever, right?):

And boy, did we deliver! Within hours we had multiple candidates apply, with one expert cleaner signed, sealed, and delivered on site ready to get to work:

What a terrific job she did!

It’s our graphic designer’s first week, okay…
Truthfully, just as we were set to hire, the most unlikely thing happened — the site was already cleaned and a new glass panel installed. For once, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency was early, go figure!
While we certainly hope this little debacle was a one-time occurrence, if any Hirect users see a future job post for a Broken Glass Technician, well, get your brooms and shop-vacs ready — we’re hiring!
While we can’t promise you’ll find positions like Broken Glass Technician on Hirect, you can find other amazing, more conventional, roles. Download the app on the App Store or on Google Play.
